North London suburbanites Laurence and Beverly are entertaining their new neighbours, Ange and Tony, to drinks and snacks. And they have also invited Sue, who needs to escape from her own house because her daughter Abigail is holding a party for her own friends.

As the evening wears on, the veneer of contentment with married life and material possessions wears thin, and tensions are revealingly exposed. Set in the 1970's, Mike Leigh's classic play still rings true today.
